The importance of fish can be traced in the Awadh's royal symbol 'Twin Fish' on many ancient buildings gates and monuments. It is said that earlier the emblem of two fishes facing each other was the symbol of the Sheikhs. Later on, Nawabs and the British as well adopted the same.
You can see that even today, the fish emblem can be seen on many buildings and government seals of Lucknow. The UP State has also adopted the Twin Fish in the State Seal.
